‘I work in separation science, that involves taking complex samples – something like blood - and then looking at all of the components of that sample and separating all of the components and then identifying what they are and how much of each component is present.’

‘This is a portable instrument we have developed here at the University and we use this mostly for looking at bomb markers - so we use it in counter-terrorism research. We’re recognised as being one of the centres of excellence in this area in the world. We have some of the best separation scientists in the world, all in one location, working together in coherent teams and we have a level of infrastructure that is the best you will see anywhere around the world. It’s an exciting international field where there are no boundaries.’
