My interests are in the field of environmental chemistry in two main areas. (i) Quantifying the bioavailability of trace metals in the environment. Water runoff from Antarctic waste sites has the potential to input high concentrations of normally trace metals (e.g. Pb, Zn and Cu) into the coastal marine environment. This in turn may lead to adverse impacts on the biota in these sensitive regions. (ii) The chemical analysis and interpretation of ice cores from around the world. These records provide important insight into past climate variability and how humans have influenced the Earth’s climate.
