Dave McGuinness obtained BSc (Hons) and PhD degrees from the University of Tasmania. He undertook postdoctoral research at the Technical University of Aachen (Germany) and Imperial College London, before moving to St. Andrews (Scotland) as a Principal Scientist for the petrochemical company Sasol. He moved to the University of Tasmania in 2006 as an ARC QEII Fellow and since 2011 has continued under an ARC Future Fellowship.
My research interests lie in homogeneous catalysis and the development of industrially relevant processes for the production of valuable chemical feedstocks. The emphasis here is on the development of new and efficient metal catalysts capable of carrying out these transformations, along with fundamental organometallic studies aimed at mechanistic understanding. Past studies have included the development of catalyst for olefin polymerisation and highly selective ethylene oligomerisation catalysts.
