In 2011 the University of Tasmania will be celebrating 50 years of teaching and research in the Chemistry Building on the Sandy Bay campus. To commemorate the occasion, the School will be hosting a symposium, followed by networking and drinks on Thursday, 1 September.
The Chemistry Symposium will include speakers from each decade for the past 50 years. To celebrate the occasion, the School will be unveiling a commissioned Educational Periodic Table of the Elements, along with a research poster display, and a room dedicated to Photos and Memorabilia from the past 50 years.
All Chemistry alumni are invited to attend this event, and the School will be endeavouring to contact as many alumni as possible with a formal invitation. A number of State dignitaries, politicians, and senior members of the University will be in attendance.
Additionally, the School's event will coincide with International Year of Chemistry which makes the event and commemorative display very prominent in a national context. The School is planning to promote the display and its sponsors in this regard. It is also appropriate that National Science Week, which occurs in late August each year, is very close to the event.
The School of Chemistry gratefully acknowledges the support of its sponsors for this event. Sponsor as at 24 May are:
