QMS PhD Candidates must enrol in QMS units separately from their PhD. Your coursework enrolment will be in either the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Marine Sciences. Satisfactory performance in the coursework component is a requirement of the doctoral award.
To qualify for a Graduate Certificate you need to satisfactorily complete 4 units. To qualify for a Graduate Diploma you need to satisfactorily complete 8 units. QMS Candidates are required to complete 6 units.
Standard enrolment for QMS PhD Candidates will be in the Graduate Certificate of Marine Sciences, with an overload of 2 units. As a QMS PhD Candidate you are required to undertake 6 units, however, if you take an extra two units (to a total of 8 units) you may qualify for the Graduate Diploma of Marine Science.
A total of 8 units are offered under the QMS program. If you intend undertaking other non-QMS units, both at UTAS or at another national or international institution, please contact Richard Coleman and/or Vanessa Folvig (Graduate Research Unit) to discuss enrolment issues as there may be an opportunity to have external units counted towards the Graduate Diploma of Marine Science.
