International PhD Candidates

Your course enrolment in the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Marine Science will be in a full fee paying international place. As QMS PhD Candidates you will not be charged fees for Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma enrolment . The University will grant a fee waiver for the coursework enrolment and international candidates will not pay any additional fees for the coursework enrolment.

The coursework enrolment will be listed on your enrolment statements and fees notices. Fees notices will indicate the amount charged for the graduate certificate or graduate diploma units, the amount of the fee waiver (shown as a scholarship) and a zero balance owing against the graduate certificate/graduate diploma units. Fees for the PhD will continue as normal, at the same rate with the same payment conditions.

International candidates who chose to enrol in the Graduate Diploma of Marine Science and undertake 8 units can only do so if the additional two units do not impact on the duration of your doctoral study as this may have implications for your visa.

A note will be placed of the academic transcript as follows: From 2008 candidates must successfully complete 5 compulsory units and 1 elective unit within the Graduate Certificate S5M which forms the coursework component of the PhD (QMS) .

Candidates will graduate in the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Marine Sciences at the time they complete their PhD or if they leave the University having completed the requirements to be awarded the Graduate Certificate.

If you have commenced but not completed the Graduate Diploma at the time you wish to graduate in the QMS PhD and you wish to continue your enrolment in the Graduate Diploma, you will be required to meet the costs for enrolling in the remaining units.

Please contact the QMS Administrative Officer (6226 2838) or Vanessa Folvig (6226 2762) at the Graduate Research Unit if you have any questions about enrolment procedures.
