Supervision |

| |
All PhD Candidates must have a minimum of two supervisors, one of whom will be appointed as the first–named supervisor, for the period of the candidature. As a QMS candidate at least one of your supervisors must be employed at CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research (CMAR).
With the recommendation of your current supervision team, the Graduate Research Coordinator (QMS), and the relevant Head of School, the Dean of Graduate Research may approve additional supervisors or research advisors from either institution or an institution external to UTAS and CMAR. If your first-named supervisor is also your Head of School, a consultant supervisor will be appointed to your supervision team.
All supervisors are required to provide guidance, direction and advice to the candidate on all aspects of the candidature. The first-named supervisor has the key responsibility for coordinating, communicating and managing the candidature as well as overall responsibility for guidance, direction and advancement of the thesis. A first named supervisor will normally be a research active and experienced registered supervisor who is a member of academic staff in the School or University Research Institute in which the candidate is enrolled (Rule 4 - Rules of Graduate Research).
The role of research advisor is to provide specialist technical expertise for supervision of the research program or to assist the supervisor.
