Staff Profiles

CSIRO Staff involved in the QMS PhD program

All QMS PhD students are co-supervised by CSIRO marine and atmospheric research staff. Find out more about the exciting projects being undertaken by these world class scientists.

Catherine Bulman Catherine Bulman is working on trophodynamics of small pelagic species of the southern Australian ecosystem and implications for fisheries in ecosystem modelling, development of methodology to assess ecological risk assessment from the effects of fishing on communities in Australian fisheries, and linking Ecopath models of Australian marine communities with climate and biogeochemical models. READ MORE
John Church

Dr John Church is working on estimates of global averaged sea-level rise, its regional distribution and the factors contributing to sea-level rise. READ MORE

Jeffrey Dambacher Dr Jeffrey Dambacher is working on using qualitative modelling to identify robust indicators for Australia's marine bioregion and theoretical role of positive feedback in long-term recovery dynamics of perturbed ecosystems READ MORE
Richard Little Dr Richard Little is working on bio-economics of marine reserves and tradeable permits READ MORE
Simon Marsland Dr Simon Marsland is working on the ACCESS/AusCOM Model, Modelling the Indonesian Throughflow, Modelling Antarctic shelf watermass transformation, and Common Ocean-Ice Reference Experiments READ MORE
Trevor McDougall Dr Trevor McDougall is working on deducing the strength of mixing processes in the ocean from observations, software for forming “density” surfaces in the ocean: neutral density, Lagrangian versus Eulerian velocities, improving the meaning and use of “heat content” in the ocean, and providing accurate expressions for the thermodynamic properties of seawater. READ MORE
Bernadette Sloyan

Dr Bernadette Sloyan is working on the international repeat hydrography and carbon program, the Southern Ocean FINEstructure (SOFINE) project and deducing the strength of mixing processes in the ocean from observations. READ MORE

Susan Wijffels Dr Susan Wijffels is working on direct measurments of the variability of the Indonesian throughflow and its representation in ocean and coupled climate models, global ocean warming trends, changes in the Earth's hydrological cycle and its footprint on ocean salinity fields, building ocean observing systems and observing and understanding deep ocean warming. READ MORE
Chris Wilcox

Dr Chris Wilcox is working on spatial management of fisheries, inference of movement and distribution of pelagic species using genetics, electronic tagging, and other data sources, development of market based instruments for marine conservation. READ MORE
