K3B Bachelor of Marine Science

The University of Tasmania's unique course in marine science provides opportunities for students to gain a qualification with one of two specialisations: biological or physical marine science. A biological science stream provides a rigorous education in aquatic botany and biology, with links to microbiology, biochemistry & chemistry. The course focus is on the biology and ecology of marine organisms, such as algae, invertebrates, fish and mammals, and their dynamics in marine ecosystems. The physical science stream provides a solid foundation in the physical sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry) allowing students to specialise in a range of sub-disciplines, including physical oceanography, chemical oceanography or marine geosciences

The Bachelor of Marine Science will be initially offered at the Hobart Campus only. Numerous Schools will be involved in teaching the course, reflecting the cross-disciplinary focus of the degree program. Schools that will be involved include:

Staff from the Marine Research Laboratories (TAFI), CSIRO Marine Research and the Australian Antarctic Division will also contribute towards the teaching of the course, where applicable.
