  • Career Summary

    Dr Daniel Bombardieri received a BSc from the University of Tasmania in 1999.  In 2001 he received his BSc (Hons) titled sulphide saturation of Apollo 12 basaltic melts (under the supervision of Marc Norman, Dima Kamenetsky and Leonid Danyushevsky). Daniel decided to change scientific disciplines and in 2003 commenced a PhD in physics with the School of Mathematics and Physics (UTAS) and the Australian Antarctic Division. His thesis examined the mechanisms responsible for solar eruptive episodes. Daniel completed his PhD in 2008 and armed with a diverse range of scientific disciplines pursued a career in 3D modelling of complex geological terrains. He was employed by Mineral Resources Tasmania (MRT) to develop their LiDAR (light detection and ranging) and 3D modelling programs. Daniel has produced detailed regional 3D geological models of north east Tasmania using the GoCAD platform. These models were validated by geophysical methods (potential field inversions). Daniel also developed innovative methods of processing (GIS based) which led to the creation of detailed LiDAR derived DEMs of selected areas of northeast Tasmania. Daniel's research focus at CODES is to develop detailed regional 3D geophysical models of west Tasmania.  

    Research Activity

    Daniel's current research project represents a collaborative study between Minerals Resources Tasmania (MRT), CODES and the Minerals and Metals Group (MMG). The project aims to bring together diverse geophysical, petrophysical and geological information to form well-constrained 3D geophysical models of western Tasmania.  These new visualisations will be used to critically re-examine the formation and development of major structures which were active during the formation of Tasmania's significant mineral deposits.
