The UTAS Sustainable Built Environment Designs policy (PDF 32.7KB) mandates that all new building projects costing more than $5 million must be designed to meet at least a 5 Star Green Star Rating from the Green Building Council of Australia. In addition, all building projects under $5 million are to be designed in accordance with ESD (environmentally sustainable design) principles and are required to provide an ESD report structured according to the Green Star Rating System themes.
UTAS’ recently completed Medical Science 2 (MS2) building in the Hobart CBD became the first educational building in Tasmania to achieve a Green Star rating for environmental design. The Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) on the Hobart waterfront has also achieved a 5 Star Green Star rating.
