The process begins with the submission of a completed application form using the performa accessible from the University's Graduate Research website by the applicant together with all supporting documents for admission. The application is submitted to the school's Graduate Research Coordinator (GRC). For further details, the applicants may wish to consult How to apply, and WARP records.

Internally, the school then progresses the application through the following procedure:

1. For application that has clearly named supervisor(s) the application is forwarded to the named supervisors for assessment and completing the school's recommendation form.
2. For all other viable applications, GRC would seek to find suitable set of supervisors. Once identified the team will assess the application and complete the school's recommendation form.
3. The intended supervisors may contact referees and interact with the candidate during assessment stage to finalise proposal and other forms. They may also seek advice from GRC for adjusting the "assessed level" of the applicant in relation to the similar recent applications.
4. The application together with the school's recommendation acceptable to the GRC would be forwarded to the School of Computing and Information Systems head for submission the Dean, Graduate Research for action.
5. Qualifications for admission are approved by the senate and can be found the University's Graduate Research website.
