Introduction

This unit explores both current thinking around dealing with life issues of adjustment to change - particularly those changes involving loss, grief and trauma. Death and bereavement will be addressed including dealing with grief as a natural process and with more complex grief. Non-death losses, such as divorce, unemployment, disability, chronic illness, infertility and ageing, are also addressed.

The unit will also look at common trauma responses, post-traumatic stress, large scale trauma, such as natural disasters, and models for effective treatment of trauma.
