High Dependency Nursing CNA626

This unit is only available to registered nurses. Students must be employed in an appropriate clinical setting.

Students undertaking critical care nursing , emergency nursing, & anaesthetics & recovery nursing streams are not permitted to enrol in this unit


This unit focuses on the nursing care of patients with high acuity needs in a variety of clinical settings. Students will advance their understanding of high dependency nursing through the application of advanced assessment and physiological monitoring skills. Content examines the physiology and common pathophysiology of the respiratory, cardiac, nervous, endocrine and renal systems. Shock syndromes and the principles of early recognition of the deteriorating patient will also be addressed through the teaching and practical application of emergency life saving skills. Students are expected to demonstrate the application of theoretical concepts as they relate to the practice environment.
