This course is offered on a full fee paying basis to eligible domestic students. Fees are established per unit and can be found in the unit descriptions within the course schedule.

The Graduate Certificate in Music is offered by the Conservatorium of Music at Hobart. It can be completed in a minimum of one semester full-time or a maximum of one year part-time.

The GradCertMus aims to provide a quality tertiary qualification at the postgraduate level in a professional coursework program. The program aims to provide students with high-level skills as performers or composers; and a comprehensive understanding of a wide range of repertoire and concepts

Students will be required to think professionally about their work and to plan for their own continuing development.

Course structure

Students choose one of three streams, either Performance, Composition, Musicology or Orchestral and complete a total weighting of 50% comprising one compulsory core unit (25%) and 1-2 electives (25%) according to the schedule for the selected stream.

Performance

Advanced studies in instruments/vocal performance in an individual program of study designed to develop a high level of technical and musical skills appropriate to the specialist area. Development of knowledge and understanding of advanced repertoire and associated concepts.…

Entry requirements

Students with an undergraduate music degree or equivalent accepted by the university will be accepted for university entrance into the program. Candidates who have been admitted to the university must also pass appropriate entrance examinations, auditions and interviews as deemed necessary by the Conservatorium.

Students who enrol in the Graduate Certificate and complete a core 25% unit plus 25% electives (a total of 50%) may then apply for the Graduate Diploma of Music (Specialisation) or the Graduate Diploma of Professional Music Practice and be eligible for up to 37.5% credit.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Fees for Domestic students are based on individual unit selections. Please refer to the fees section of each unit description to work out an indicative annual cost.

Annual Tuition Fee is inclusive of the compulsory Student Services and Amenities (SSA) fee. The SSA fee for 2017 is $294 AUD.

International students

2017 Annual Tuition Fee (international students): $28,000 AUD*.
