Introduction

The unit provides students with an understanding of the political economy of globalisation, development and sustainability. Topics covered include (a) conceptualisations of globalisation and the global political economy of trade, money and investment regimes; (b) theories of development, the Third World debt crisis, and development aid; and (c) the political economy of sustainability including new ways to measure wealth and policies to promote sustainable production and consumption, and the green economy. Students will be able to identify and focus their studies on specific topics of interest.
