Introduction

This unit extends the student's understanding of the concepts of genetics and molecular biology obtained in CXA171 Cell Biology and Function and CXA262Cell and Molecular Biochemistry. The unit focuses on medical molecular genetics providing detailed study of genetic mutations and inheritance patterns of genetic diseases. Laboratory sessions cover molecular diagnostic techniques.

Teaching Pattern

Flexible delivery via MyLo; 1-hr tutorial (12 weeks); One week practical workshop for 8hrs/day in week 13.

Assessment

Quizzes (2 x 45 min; 15% each), Laboratory workbook and Practical Participation (25%), Group (3-4 students) Review paper (5000 words; 35%), Group (3-4 students) oral presentation of Review paper (15 min; 10%).
