Introduction

Introduces students to the types of research which informs our understanding of normal and abnormal functions of the human body and of treatment and preventative health care. The unit also covers basic pharmacological and toxicological principles, the use and monitoring of drugs as therapeutic agents and their misuse, including the issues of drug usage in sport. Issues of current interest in biomedical, environmental health and exercise science will also be addressed.

2-hr lecture (13 weeks, including online), 2-hr statistics practical/workshop (4 weeks)

Assessment

Mid-Semester Multiple Choice Test (10%); Assignment 1 (max 5000 words) (25%); Assignment 2 (1000 words) (10%), Statistics Test (5%),Final 3-hr exam (50%).
