Introduction
Please note that the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting is
only considered as an exit point from the MPA or MPAS and students would not normally enrol in this program.
This is a 6 month full-time or 1 year part-time course of study offered by the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance in the Faculty of Business.
The course involves the completion of 4 units of study. The course is the first part of a suite of courses that culminate in eligibility for professional accounting body membership. Completion of this course alone does not lead to professional accounting body membership (see Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) and Master of Professional Accounting - Specialisation (MPAS)). This is a fee paying course.
All units are subject to formal assessment including the completion of continuous assessment such as assignments, and a final examination.
Admission & Prerequisites
The Faculty of Business may accept as a candidate for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting any of the following:
- A person who has the equivalent of an undergraduate or masters degree in a non-accounting degree. International applications are subject to assessment for equivalency; OR
- A person who has approved relevant work experience or other special circumstances (eg post secondary qualifications) as approved by the Dean or delegated authority.
For entry into all postgraduate courses, international students must provide an IELTS test score of at least Band 6 with a minimum of 6.0 on all bands, or a TOEFL score of 575 with a Test of Written English score of no less than 4.5. This test must not be more than 24 months old.
At the discretion of the Faculty, admission may also include an interview.
Career Outcomes
The units in this course form part of the MPA and/or MPAS and, once the MPA or MPAS is completed and, depending on the qualifications of the applicant on entry, it is the first part of a pathway for students to qualify for membership of the professional accounting bodies. The students are then ableto pursue professional year studies with these bodies.
