Introduction

This course is designed to provide a higher degree qualification for students who wish to extend their depth of knowledge and analytical skills developed in previous undergraduate and postgraduate studies. It combines units of a traditional MBA with others having a strong international business and maritime focus.

Admission & Prerequisites

Candidates commence studies by enrolling in either our Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma courses. The entry requirements for these courses are given below:

A first degree in Business or an associated discipline such as Commerce, Economics, Law, Management, Transport and Distribution, Maritime Studies or Marine Engineering, and Two years work experience,

or

Applicants who do not hold a first degree, but have relevant professional qualifications such as a Class 1 Certificate of Competency can apply, provided they have work experience at a level considered by the Department of Maritime Business to be equivalent.

If a first degree or professional qualification is not held, prospective candidates may apply to the Department of Maritime Business for consideration. Applicants are assessed on their work experience and current managerial responsibilities. For non-degree holders, an official GMAT score is also required.

Students with English as a second language will also need to have an IELTS score of 6.

Upon successful completion of the Graduate Diploma in Maritime and Logistics Management with a Credit Grade Point Average (GPA) , candidates will be invited to apply for the final four units of study for the MBA program by the Course Coordinator.

Course Objectives

The attributes that the Division of Management and Logistics develop in our graduates are detailed below. The depth of knowledge and level of analytical skills varies with the course studied. All courses develop life-long learning.

  • apply knowledge of business fundamentals to the maritime, transport and logistics industries;
  • communicate effectively with professionals, colleagues and the community at large;
  • identify business problems, analyse their implications and formulate solutions f or the business;
  • function effectively as an individual and in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural situations;
  • understand the social, cultural, global and environmental responsibilities of businesses, and the significance of sustainable development;
  • view the business environment holistically, understanding its contribution to the development of society and the economy;
  • a commitment to the ethical and professional responsibilities of business leaders, and
    undertake lifelong learning, and have developed the interest and capacity to do so.

Career Outcomes

Senior management positions in international transport, logistics and maritime industries; ports and terminals management and administration at local and international levels; government positions


Articulation to/from Course

Graduate Diploma in Maritime and Logistics Management (Credit average).
Candidates can pursue a program of research by applying for entrance to the Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy.
