Introduction

THIS COURSE IS OFFERED ON A HECS-BASIS TO ELIGIBLE STUDENTS. FOR ALL OTHER STUDENTS THIS COURSE IS OFFERED ON A FEE-PAYING BASIS ONLY.

This on-campus, one year full-time (or, up to 4 consecutive years part-time) course is available at Hobart and/or Launceston (not all specialisations are available on both campuses). Some units will be available by off-campus study, but not in sufficient numbers at this stage to complete the degree in this mode.

The following specialisations are available within the GradDipArts(Spec):

  • Aboriginal Studies
  • Asian Studies
  • Australian Studies
  • Chinese
  • Classical and Medieval Studies
  • English
  • French
  • German
  • History
  • Indonesian
  • Japanese
  • Philosophy (incorporating Gender Studies)
  • Sociology
  • Social Research

These course rules and specifications apply to students commencing the GradDipArts(Spec) in 2008.

Admission & Prerequisites

Normal admission requirement are:

  • successful completion of the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Arts (Specialisation); or
  • a Bachelor of Arts degree or its equivalent from the University of Tasmania; or
  • a university degree from another university or tertiary institution, deemed to be appropriate by the Faculty of Arts; or
  • candidates not holding a bachelor's degree but whose employment experience indicates a level of knowledge and skill deemed by the Faculty to be sufficient to complete the course satisfactorily may be deemed eligible for admission.


Articulation to/from Course

Where specialisations permit, students who have satisfactorily completed the requirements for the Graduate Diploma in Arts (Specialisation) may proceed to the Master of Arts (Specialisation). Students who complete 50% of units (including any core units) may elect to take out the Graduate Certificate.

Credit
Credit may be given, at the discretion of the Faculty, for previous postgraduate or honours level study, or alternative achievements by students in other awards and professional practice areas at equivalent level.
