Special Topics in Ocean Engineering JEE492
Introduction
This unit covers contemporary topics and recent advances in different fields of ocean engineering. It provides students with a broad knowledge of the state-of-the-art in ocean engineering with a focus on subsea systems and offshore topside facilities. Topics covered range from subsea and ocean surface systems for offshore oil and gas production and renewable energy systems including topside production facilities, subsea pipelines and marine risers, subsea control systems, underwater technologies such as remotely operated vehicles (ROV) and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) and their applications in subsea survey, inspection, construction, and installation. Students will learn the engineering principles that are required to conceptualise, design, construct, and present an offshore energy system that fulfills real-world requirements.
