Enrolment in this unit is subject to approval by the Conservatorium Sub-Dean or Unit Coordinator.

Conservatorium students are expected to have prepared their parts thoroughly prior to the first scheduled rehearsal.

This unit is also available via the University Connections Program (UCP) (formerly known as the UTAS/University College Program), however will not contribute to TE/ATAR scores.

This unit explores a systematic elaboration of ideas and skills introduced in the previous unit with additional emphases in exploring the procedural and artistic elements embedded within professional music performance practice. The work of the unit focuses on developing consistency in the preparation and performance of (at least) two concert programs.

Teaching Pattern

Semester 1 and 2:    Weekly 2 x 3 hour rehearsals/coaching sessions (12 weeks) or as timetabled by ensemble directors.

Semester 3, 4 and 5:    2 x 3-day weekends of sectionals and rehearsals totaling an average 40-60 hrs or as timetabled by ensemble directors.


Conductor/Tutor/Directorial Team assessment: 30%

On-going rehearsal effectiveness assessment (observational review): 20%

Performances: At least 2 public concerts of prepared repertoire: 50%
