Asia: Enduring Traditions HMA101

Hobart, Launceston

Note: Hurdle requirement - students must pass an in-class test on the map of Asia.

This unit introduces students to Asia as a region comprising a great diversity of people, cultures, religions and ideas. It challenges simplistic portrayals of pre-modern Asia as never-changing and bound by static tradition. This unit explores how the movement of people, ideas, and material goods made pre-modern Asia one of the most exciting and vibrant regions of the world. Other topics covered include the 'silk road', religion and belief systems (indigenous beliefs, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, Daoism and Islam).
