The Bachelor of Business Administration is designed to further develop the knowledge and skills of a diverse range of students taking a business pathway from diploma and advanced diploma level studies at TAFE and other vocational educational providers.

You will learn to apply leading theories to real-world business situation, and demonstrate high-level proficiency in critical thinking, research, and the principles of social responsibility. Throughout the course you will build skills in team work and effective communication in a business context.

The Bachelor of Business Administration is designed to produce graduates with a sound knowledge of the fundamental principles and concepts in a range of key business disciplines such as human resource management, management and marketing.

The Course Learning Outcomes (Human Resource and Management) are:

  • Critically apply a broad, coherent and in-depth knowledge of foundational and contemporary business management theories, concepts, and principles to a range of organisational settings including large multinational firms, small local business, and social enterprises.
  • Effectively communicate in written and oral form complex business management knowledge and ideas to a broad range of audiences. This includes the ability to argue for an idea, persuade, defend a proposition, negotiate a win-win outcome, and execute a business focussed presentation to a diverse audience.
  • Obtain, critically analyse, interpret and apply data to complex business management problems in a range of organisational settings.
  • Exercise judgement and intellectual independence to provide evidence-based solutions to a range of business management tasks in complex and changing organisational  contexts.
  • Evaluate relevant ethical and legal considerations in an impartial way for specialised business management contexts, and demonstrate the ability to provide commentary on forces driving organisational change to inform best practice.

Career outcomes

The course is designed to produce well educated and adaptable graduates, with appropriate professional skills to meet the existing needs and demands of business. The course specifically prepares you to work in such areas as management, human resource management, and marketing.

Course structure

Normally you will be admitted to the Bachelor of Business Administration with either 8 or 12 units advanced standing from a business related Diploma or Advanced Diploma.

If you have been granted 8 units advanced standing, you will need to complete 16 University units: 6 in your major, 4 in the minor and 5 student electives and a breadth unit.

If you have been granted 12 units advanced standing, you will need to complete 12 University units: 6 in your major, 4 in the minor, 1 advanced level student elective and a breadth unit.

You can choose your student elective/s from any units in the University, as long as you meet the pre-requisites and the units are within the minimum and maximum number of units at each level (introductory, intermediate and advanced) for the degree.

Entry requirements

Admission to the course is based upon completion of a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a Business related discipline from TasTAFE, any other Australian RTO or overseas equivalent or completion of an Associate Degree in Applied Business (Full-Articulation Pathway).

Students who have completed a business related Diploma will be eligible for 8 units advanced standing. Students who have completed a business related Advanced Diploma will be eligible for 12 units of advanced standing. Students who have completed the ADAB Full-Articulation pathway will be eligible for up to 16 units of credit dependent upon the units undertaken in the articulation pathway and their intended major.

Domestic students must meet the University's General Admission Requirements.

International students must meet the Admission Requirements for International Students.

International students must provide one of the following: UTASAccess Level 6 with a minimum overall score of 60% and no individual skill below 55%; or an IELTS score with an overall Band of 6 and no band less than 5.5; or a TOEFL (iBT) overall score of 72 (no individual skill must be lower than: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; and, Writing 19) or a PTE Academic overall score of 50 with no score lower than 42, or provide evidence that you have studied for 2 years full-time with English as the sole medium of instruction and examination. These tests must not be more than 24 months old.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

Domestic students enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place will be charged a fee based on the number of units a student enrols in. In 2018, this fee is $44.70 per unit. In 2018, the maximum charge for full time students is $298.

International students

International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
