The MBA(I) is a 16 unit course, which you can study full time or part-time. This course is full fee-paying, which means that you will be charged at the full fee-paying rate listed for each unit.

The MBA(I) includes opportunities to engage in study tours as well as internships or work integrated learning with leading Tasmanian organisations.

The below course learning outcomes have been mapped across the TSBE mission, the AQF and the UTas graduate quality statement:

  1. Acquire and critically evaluate foundational, contemporary and globally applicable management theories, principles and processes and reflect on their efficacy in practice.
  2. Communicate and justify complex ideas and decisions, in both oral and written formats, across audiences characterised by culturally and linguistically diverse people.
  3. Solve complex management problems: use information literacy and research skills to investigate management practice and then apply critical and strategic thinking to make and justify decisions.
  4. Demonstrate a range of management capabilities including: leadership, change management, team building and people management skills, in local, national and global contexts.
  5. Identify and critically evaluate ethical and legal considerations in decision making and articulate and enact moral values in complex international contexts.

Career outcomes

MBA Graduates can become the future leaders in business, locally, nationally and globally.  An MBA gives students the skills required to lead and achieve in their chosen field, from general management through to specialist industries, and from SMEs to multinational corporations.

Entry requirements

For entry into the MBA (International), students must meet the following criteria:

Either:

1)      Completed undergraduate degree of an Australian higher education institution or the equivalent standard in any other institution

OR

2)      Completion of the Graduate Certificate of Business Studies at the University of Tasmania, or an equivalent qualifying Graduate Certificate#

OR

3)      Completion of an AQF Level 6 qualification and a minimum of three (3) years senior managerial experience.

#a qualifying Graduate Certificate is any Graduate Certificate from an Australian higher education institution, or the equivalent from any other institution.

International students must provide one of the following: UTASAccess Level 7 with a minimum overall score of 65% and no individual skill below 60%; or an IELTS score with an overall Band of 6.5 and no band less than 6; or a TOEFL (iBT) overall score of 88 (no individual skill must be lower than: Reading 16; Listening 16; Speaking 18; and, Writing 22) or a PTE Academic overall score of 58 with no score lower than 50, or provide evidence that you have studied for 2 years full-time with English as the sole medium of instruction and examination. These tests must not be more than 24 months old.

This course has no direct articulation with any other program; students may undertake a pathway via the Graduate Certificate in Business Studies, but the units completed therein do not count in to the MBA(I).

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

2019 Annual Course Fee (domestic students): $20,888 AUD*.

* Please note that this is an indicative annual fee only and is provided as a guide based on a typical enrolment of students completing the first year of this course. The cost will vary depending on the units you choose, your study load, the length of your course and any approved credit for prior learning. Student Services and Amenities fee

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

Domestic students enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place will be charged a fee based on the number of units a student enrols in. In 2019, this fee is $44.70 per unit. In 2019, the maximum charge for full time students is $298.

International students

2019 Total Course Fee (international students): $66,036 AUD*.

Course cost based on a rate of $32,450 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
