Graduate Certificate of Education enables teachers to extend and update their knowledge in a specialised area of interest and is offered fully online. The course has international standing and is seen as a prestigious qualification for educators who wish to become leaders in their chosen fields. 

Within the Graduate Certificate of Education you are able to study units from a number of discipline areas. 

An alternative pathway to the Graduate Certificate of Education for domestic students is available on a Commonwealth Supported (CSP) basis for the first four units through the Bachelor of Education with Professional Honours E4D course.

This degree is designed to provide postgraduate level coursework for professionals who are associated with the practice of education. It is intended to enable competent, experienced professionals to broaden, deepen, update and integrate knowledge in an area of interest and/or expertise.

Our objectives are to;

  • Develop practical understanding of teaching as an "evidence based profession".
  • Engage in research to promote critical reflective practice which will enhance the outcomes of learners in educational contexts.
  • Explore theoretical and practical aspects of teaching and learning in a range of contexts including schools, workplaces and community settings.
  • Advance your knowledge, skills and understandings of educational research and practice.
  • Develop critical and analytical skills through discussion of relevant and substantive research in areas of specific interest.
  • Engage in wider and more general education debates.
  • Engage, develop and implement research methodologies in your own research project.

Please Note: This course does not qualify graduates as teachers. The appropriate graduate entry course for initial teacher training is the Master of Teaching.

Students may choose any four Education postgraduate coursework units.  A number of Graduate Certificate specialisations are currently available with specific unit schedules.

Entry requirements

This course is available to graduates in teacher education, graduates from other disciplines with a Diploma of Education, Bachelor of Teaching, or Master of Teaching, or to those holding equivalent qualifications. Graduates from non-education courses with extensive relevant work experience are also eligible to undertake this course.

An alternative pathway to the Graduate Certificate of Education for domestic students is available on a Commonwealth Supported (CSP) basis for the first four units through the Bachelor of Education with Professional Honours E4D course.

 The Graduate Certificate of Education articulates directly with the Master of Education

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

Annual Tuition Fee is inclusive of the compulsory Student Services and Amenities (SSA) fee. The SSA fee for 2017 is $294 AUD.

International students

2016 Annual Tuition Fee (international students): $24,000 AUD.
