Ensemble and Context 4 (Classical) FCA129

Students are required to pass an audition to enrol in this unit.

Availability: Offered every alternate year i.e. 2018, 2020, 2022 etc.

This is one of four units in which students engage in guided development of ensemble performance skills and/or skills in composing for ensembles, contextualised through the study of complementary areas such as historical knowledge, stylistic analysis and ancillary performance or compositional techniques. The integration of ensemble skills and contextual understanding is explored and applied through practical and written activities.

This unit contextualises music of the past and present through the lens of Postmodernism, and includes discussion of the ways in which composers have deliberately mixed musical styles and borrowed from popular culture.
