Introduction

This unit builds on the skills and understanding gained in Contemporary Techniques 2. It is the third in a sequence of units that develop essential musicianship skills through the study of jazz and contemporary music theory, notation, and aural skills. Students will engage in a variety of activities aimed at contextualising the theoretical and practical aspects of music making. Activities will focus on developing music literacy, harmonic analysis, rhythm, and improvisational/compositional techniques integral to jazz and contemporary music practice.

Theory: 50% (2 x assignments and 1 x exam),
Aural: 50% (workshop tests, homework tasks and 1 x aural exam)
