This unit can be taken as a Student Elective, excluding BMus students.
Provides a course of vocal, instrumental or compositional study, covering both technique and repertoire. Composition students will be guided in the development of an individual style of composition in a variety of musical genres. A program of study will be established on an individual basis with regard to the needs and stage of development of each student, a wide range of styles and idioms being introduced. Emphasis will be placed on progressive development throughout the duration of the course.

Audition, written test and interview
You cannot enrol in this unit as well as the following:
Minimum of 3 hours contact weekly comprising the following activities: 1hr specialist lesson (group and/or one-to-one tuition), 90 minute performance class and/or group tutorials, 2-3 hour ensemble rehearsal
Instrumental/vocal: End of semester assessment: 60%, 15-20 minutes. The material presented will reflect the work undertaken in the one-to-one lesson, eg. Technical work, studies, recital repertoire, student journal et al
Weekly activities: 40%, assessment of the student's weekly preparation and participation in all unit activities, classes and rehearsals eg. teacher's mark, concert/repertoire diary, ensemble activities, excerpts performance et al
Composition: folio of semester work 70%, Seminar task 10%, Written assignment 10%, Performance of works 10%
