Introduction

This unit introduces students to the historical, cultural, theoretical and practical aspects of photomedia practice. Traditional photographic technologies and methodologies are explored and critiqued in combination with contemporary photographic imaging hardware and strategies. Central to this course is the development of an understanding of photographic processes and their place within historical, theoretical and conceptual framework. This is an introductory course and does not assume any prior photographic knowledge or expertise. Emphasis is placed on developing visual literacy and the capacity to read and interpret images.
