'What are the limits?' challenges and extends students understanding of the potential scope of traditional media with an emphasis on testing boundaries and cross overs within material investigations. For example, a painting project may challenge the traditional 'painting in a frame' and extend into other areas such as photomedia, 3D and spatial practice, sound, performance or installation.
Student devise their own projects which test the limits of a selected media through practical response, creating and presenting outcome of their enquiry and refining ideas in response to critical feedback. Journal based documentation underpins aspects of projects, which includes theoretical investigations and development of a conceptually based theme. Exploration of themes include written reflection on processes of making and aligned practices including historical and contemporary approaches.
This project may engage drawing, painting, photomedia, sound, performance and installation, and allows the potential for hybrid and multidisciplinary projects as students explore 'what are the limits?'
