Life Drawing (Expression) FSD356

This unit is being phased out, no new enrolments are being taken.

This unit has a quota. If you cannot enrol this unit via eStudentCentre due to the quota, please contact the unit coordinator for permission to enrol.

This unit increases skills in observational drawing and expressive mark-making through studying and drawing the human figure. You will be taught the principles of drawing forms in space and the elements of line, movement, structure and volume. Classes are structured around drawing from the life model.
In addition, you are expected to undertake regular exercises in observational and expressive drawing in a sketchbook, journal or similar. One-on-one consultation, class discussion, and critiques supplement practical sessions. Together these will assist you with how to draw, how to respond analytically to your work as it is being created, and provide you with relevant technical information.
Figure drawing is as important today as it ever was for artists and is foundational to both traditional and contemporary art-making practices. Thus the unit is designed to accommodate students with various backgrounds and experiences, studying visual arts and other disciplines.
