Experimental Art and New Technology FST215

Note:

This unit is available in alternate years only

Introduction

The unit examines the nexus between art, design and technological innovation. Its central focus is contemporary art practice, with reference to historical examples of artists and critics who were engaged with new technologies and social change in earlier times. The unit traces the cultural and aesthetic effects of developments in mass communications (print, photography, film, television, the internet, the world wide web and digital imaging), and examines tendencies in image making, performance art, sound, video and installation work, design and graphics, and exhibition practices.
