Media, Sport and Society HEJ243

Note:

This unit is not on offer in 2017

Introduction

Sport is a major driver of media change. New media practices, technologies, platforms, policies and economies have developed to service the multi-billion dollar global sporting industry. This unit examines the relationship between sport and media in contemporary society. It provides a critical understanding of the production, circulation and consumption of media sports texts, and their representations of gender, nationalism, class and race. It examines the intersection of the sports, media, and other industries, locally and globally. You will also cover sporting events in order to more deeply understand the processes driving sports journalism and media production.
