Social Work Practicum 2 HGW613
Restricted to Master of Social Work.
Prior to the commencement of placement, attendance will be required at scheduled seminars, workshops and an interview held on campus in Semester 1. There are compulsory Preparation for Placement seminars in March and June. Placement starts on 2 July 2018. Please note: placement starts prior to Semester 2.
Students enrolled in the Master of Social Work are required to provide a new National Police Certificate (Schedule 1) obtained through Tasmania Police in Semester 1 for each year that a Professional Education Placement is undertaken. Students are also asked to provide a Working with Children Check. In accordance with the University of Tasmania Safe to Practice Policy and Work Health and Safety Policy, students are also required to sign a 'Safe to Practice Agreement' in Semester 1 regarding their medical, physical and psychological capacity to practice safely on placement and without adverse impact on themselves, professional colleagues or clients.
The unit HGW616 Advanced Critical Practice is a co-requisite for students undertaking this fieldwork placement.
Introduction
Students are required to undertake a minimum of 500 hours of placement in a setting that is relevant to social work practice, in order to experience a range of practice processes and tasks. Field educators are allocated to each student and through supervision (provided by a social worker with a minimum of 2 years' full time equivalent post-graduation experience in the field), the theory of social work is integrated into practice. Students will be required to attend preparation seminars and a placement interview prior to commencing placement.
