Contemporary Metaphysics and Epistemology HPH210

Hobart, Launceston

Introduction

Metaphysics and epistemology are two, intimately related, core areas of philosophy. This unit introduces students to contemporary debates about both, and about the relation between our views on reality and what we can know about that reality. The metaphysical issues discussed may include the nature of time, space, personal identity, causation, possibility, the nature of properties, relations, and numbers. The epistemological issues will include the nature, structure, and extent of our knowledge, and the justification of our beliefs.
