This on-campus course is offered at Launceston, Hobart and Rozelle on a full time or part time basis. The course length is a minimum of one year of full-time study and a maximum of two years part time.

The objectives of the Bachelor of Nursing with Honours are:

  • Develop an understanding of individual responses to nursing practice and how this impacts on research.
  • Develop the ability to critically and theoretically analyse a context or aspect of practice and apply this analysis to the research project.
  • Conduct a modest but rigorous research project that incorporates an appropriate research design and demonstrates critical engagement with the phenomenon of interest.
  • Contribute to a scholarly community through dialogue, debate and critique.
  • 1 Develop an understanding of individual responses to nursing practice and how this impacts on research.

    Graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing with Honours may enter graduate/professional development programs in Australian healthcare systems. Graduates are prepared to undertake postgraduate research and activities; and gain preferential access to postgraduate courses.

    Applicants must have completed an AQF Bachelor of Nursing with a credit average (GPA 5.0/7.0).

    Applicants must discuss their intended research topic and method with the course coordinator to ensure it aligns with the College research strategy and the School has the required supervision expertise and resources. 

    SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

    If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors for special consideration, including economic hardship, a serious medical condition or disability.

    We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants.

    Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer. Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability.

    English Language Requirements  

    For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided.     Graduates holding first class (I) or upper 2nd class (IIA) BN (Hons) are eligible to apply for PhD candidature.

    Domestic students

    Options for this course

    Cost shouldn’t get in the way of you studying.

    If you’re a domestic student, you may be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place in this course. This means your fees will be subsidised by the Australian Government. You’ll only need to pay the student contribution amount for each unit you study within the course.

    You may also be able to defer payment of the student contribution amount by accessing a HECS-HELP loan from the Government. If eligible, you’ll only have to pay your tuition fees once you start earning above a specific amount.

    International students

    2024 Total Course Fee (international students): $37,250 AUD*.

    Course cost based on a rate of $37,250 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

    * Please note that this is an indicative fee only.

    International students

    International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
