Introduction
This unit is designed to be experiential and practice focused. It will focus on the complex health care needs of patients requiring specialised anaesthetic and recovery nursing care. The practice skills required to address complex nursing situations in the anaesthetic and recovery environment will be covered in this unit. Students will examine potential complications and/or emergencies requiring nursing intervention, coordination and management during the patient's anaesthetic and recovery phase of their operative procedure.

- Critically analyse and reflect on the policies and guidelines of specialist professional bodies such as ACPAN, ANZCA and ACORN to support clinical decision making.
- Apply advanced risk management strategies in anaesthetics and recovery nursing.
- Reflect and evaluate one's own clinical practice with a view to making improvements when required, thus improving patient care and safety.
