N7E Master of Professional Engineering (Specialisation)

Award Title and Abbreviation

1. The full title and approved abbreviation for the award of Master of Professional Engineering (Specialisation) will be dependent on the specialisation chosen. The testamur will include the full name of the specialisation undertaken by the candidate.

Validity

2. These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2016 and shall apply to all candidates for the award, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.

Entry

3. Candidates for the Master of Professional Engineering (Specialisation) shall be qualified for entry if they hold either a Bachelor degree in a science based discipline with sufficient numerical skills to undertake the MProfEng(Specialisation) course, a Bachelor degree in Engineering (Non-Washington Accord) or a Washington Accord Bachelor degree in Engineering majoring in a different specialisation than the Master of Professional Engineering (Specialisation) to be undertaken.

For those applicants who are nationals of and currently residing in a country where English is NOT the official language, evidence of an IELTS or TOEFL test must be provided. For the MProfEng(Specialisation) an IELTS score of 6.0 or above (with no area below 6.0), or equivalent is required.

Course Requirements and duration

4. To qualify for the Master of Professional Engineering (Specialisation), a candidate shall pass units totalling 325% in a chosen specialisation as listed in the accompanying schedule.

5. Candidates shall complete the degree requirements in not less than two-years of full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than seven-years, from the time of first enrolment.

General

6. Units may be counted toward the Master of Professional Engineering (Specialisation) only if they have been taken in accordance with the prerequisites determined by the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology and as summarised in the schedule.

7. Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the award.

8. Passes in units in other courses (completed or otherwise) at this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the degree.

9. Candidates able to demonstrate a minimum of 12 weeks practical experience in an engineering environment outside a university where they have been exposed to professional engineering practice will be granted credit for KNE389 and KNE390.

10. In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the Dean in accordance with the requirements of Specification 4 above.

11. The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the Schedules of the specifications.
