The Graduate Diploma of Information and Communication Technology (GradDipICT) provides non-ICT students with broad knowledge and understanding of fundamental information and communication technology concepts and principles. The GradDipICT provides students with a previous tertiary qualification in any discipline area with the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to deal effectively with advanced issues involving ICT.

The GradDipICT allows students to select significant areas for in-depth study, from a range of advanced ICT areas, to provide students with knowledge, understanding and experiences that transcend technologies and are robust over time so that students are well-placed to deal with ongoing, rapid changes in ICT. Studies in the various advanced areas of ICT allow students to develop a professional, responsible, self-reflective and critical attitude to the practice of ICT.

GradDipICT graduates should be ICT professionals with the abilities and skills to:

  • adapt and apply techniques for acquiring, converting, transmitting, storing, managing and analysing data, information and knowledge;
  • select and effectively apply processes, methodologies, tools, research skills and techniquest to analyze, model, develop, and manage ICT products and services;
  • apply abstraction and critical thinking to a problem, identify and define the ICT requirements, apply knowledge of advanced ICT principles and technical skills to develop and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of potential solutions.

GradDipICT graduates should acquire attitudes needed by an ICT professional to:

  • be an effective team member;
  • take initiative and work independently;
  • communicate effectively at a professional leve;
  • continue lifelong learning; and
  • adhere to codes of professional conduct and practice.

Career outcomes

The GradDipICT is an effective means of opening up new career possibilities in a broad range of ICT fields. Graduates of the GradDipICT will have the knowledge and skills to solve complex social, economic and technical problems within the context of information and communication technology. By selecting specialist subjects, graduates will develop deep theoretical and practical knowledge in specific areas so that they will have the intellectual and conceptual foundation to play leading roles in the development of the ICT industry. Graduates of the program will be expected to play leading professional roles in the field locally and overseas. The GradDipICT provides formal postgraduate credentials to advance your ICT career across any industry. For students without prior ICT studies, the GradDipICT provides fundamental skills in systems analysis and design; programming; cyber-security; web technology; database technology; data communications and networking technology. By selecting specialist units, students will further develop their knowledge in several advanced ICT areas such as Information Management; Enterprise Systems; eLogistics; Systems Strategy and Management; Network Security and Data Management Technology. Graduates will enjoy varied and rewarding careers around the world. For example: systems analyst; database modeler/administrator; programmer; ICT strategist; project manager; information management specialist; security architect/specialist; enterprise architect.

Course structure

In the GradDipICT students will satisfactorily complete eight postgraduate 12.5% units.

If a candidate does not have the ICT Bachelor degree on entry they must complete the following units (included in the total eight units):

Bachelor Degree from accredited tertiary institution

Candidates can articulate from a GradCertICT.

Successful candidates will be able to articulate into the Master of Information Technology and Systems. Candidates might be able to exit into a Graduate Certificate in Information and Communication Technology.

Fees & scholarships

Domestic students

Fees for Domestic students are based on individual unit selections. Please refer to the fees section of each unit description to work out an indicative annual cost.

Annual Tuition Fee is inclusive of the compulsory Student Services and Amenities (SSA) fee. The SSA fee for 2017 is $294 AUD.

International students

2017 Annual Tuition Fee (international students): $30,250 AUD*.
