Advanced Technologies focusses on a range of structural, construction and service systems for complex and large-scale buildings emphasising developments in technologies and regulatory frameworks for environmentally sustainable design. Through lectures and investigation of precedents you will gain understanding of contemporary practices in the design of environmentally responsive buildings and the relationship to regulatory contexts including performancebased codes and environmental rating tools. You will be introduced to the roles and responsibilities of architects, specialists and consultants in the building procurement process through guest lectures by practitioners and experts.
Based on a given project brief, including environmental, economic and functional performance requirements, you will develop schematic designs for a complex large-scale building integrating structural, construction, envelope and service strategies and compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks. Working in groups as a consultant team, you will then refine designs and present resolved technical solutions employing professional communication techniques.
