This unit is offered in a blended on-campus mode. The unit delivery comprises one 2-hour online video conferencing session per week. This session is shown in the Unit timetable. Students may join this session from personal computers on-campus or from their work or home. The practical work for this unit can be completed off-campus, but students are encouraged to use on-campus PC laboratory facilities that have the required high-performance computing and required software installed.
Nearly all information on modern topographic maps is derived from aerial photography. Photogrammetry is the science of measurement from photographs. This unit will provide you with an understanding of the mathematical principles of photogrammetry and their application to a variety of spatial measurement tasks, including topographic mapping, but also close-range methods employed in disciplines such as engineering, architecture, and archaeology. Key topics include the selection of cameras for mapping tasks, the mathematical foundations of photogrammetry, the operation of digital photogrammetric software, methods of camera calibration, and adjustment theory for large photogrammetric projects. KGG330 is a core unit in the BSurvSpSc, an advanced unit in the GIS and Remote Sensing Major and is also available to students from other courses who have an interest in remote sensing and mapping.
