Social and Cultural issues of Interactive Digital Media KIT311

Hobart

Note:

Introduction

Interactive digital media usage has exploded over the past decade. People are interacting with a variety of media: checking messages on a mobile phone; buying a game on line; updating a social networking profile. More recently, interactive digital media have increasingly become a support to work, study, travel, entertainment and other daily activities. The knowledge, skills and sensitivity to design interactive media technologies are key skills in contemporary society. This unit will provide students with an understanding of the cultural and social issues surrounding the use of digital media. It offers a human-centered view of digital media, focusing on the interaction between technological changes and cultural practices. This unit will consider interactive media technology from the point of view of how it is used and how it can make a difference in people's lives.
