This unit introduces you to what it means to be a nurse in contemporary health care practice through exploring beginning insights into the profession and discipline of nursing. In this unit, you will explore the diversity of nursing through consideration of the historical and contemporary contexts of care and how culture, politics and practice have shaped these over time. As an emerging nurse, you will develop knowledge skills about critical self-reflection. The unit also encompasses a global perspectives module in which you will apply critical and reflective practice to develop cultural competence. As a Registered Nurse your personal and professional achievements depend on how interculturally aware you are. Because this is considered to be a foundation unit, you will also receive support and guidance in developing academic reading and writing skills.
