Specialisations:
Critical Care Paramedicine – this specialisation combines the knowledge, skills and clinical scope of both the Intensive Care Paramedic (ICP) and the Extended Care Paramedic (ECP) into one qualification, providing the graduate with career flexibility and portability. Participants in this specialisation will expand their theoretical knowledge underpinning practice and will build clinical skills associated with the scope of an ICP or ECP relevant to practice in a wide range of public, private and off shore settings.
Course objectives
Graduates of this course are expected to be able to:
- Have developed the advanced paramedic knowledge, advanced clinical reasoning and decision making and clinical practice skills necessary for the management and provision of advanced, effective and comprehensive health care to particular populations of health consumers in the community and workplace;
- Integrate and apply the interdisciplinary skills and knowledge that are required to participate effectively in the planning, implementation and management of health care programs and services within the community;
- Have developed an advanced level of understanding in the legal, ethical and political dimensions of practice within the discipline and specialty area of advanced paramedicine; and
- Apply research skills to the resolution and improvement of health outcomes for consumers of clinical and community advanced paramedic practitioners.

Depending on the specialisation undertaken, graduates will be able to enter a wide range of professional careers including Intensive Care Paramedic and Extended Care Paramedic. This course will enable paramedics to take their careers beyond traditional paramedic practice.

Applicants are required to have completed a career entry level undergraduate degree in Paramedicine or equivalent qualification as determined by the Course Coordinator, from an approved tertiary institution.
Applicants must provide evidence of current employment working as a paramedic prior to an offer being made.
Applicants must provide evidence of current AHPRA registration in paramedicine, without conditions or notations.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION
If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors for special consideration, including economic hardship, a serious medical condition or disability.
We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
This is a full-fee course, which means you’ll need to pay the full amount for your studies. Commonwealth Supported Places are not available in this course. However, there are still support options available for eligible students to help you manage the cost of studying this course.
You may be able to fund all or part of your tuition fees by accessing a FEE-HELP loan from the Australian Government. FEE-HELP is a loan scheme that assists domestic full-fee students to pay for University, which is repaid through the Australian Tax System once you earn above a repayment threshold. This means you’ll only have to start repaying the loan once you start earning above a specific amount
