Types of Online Study

Along with other major educational institutions in Tasmania, the University uses MyLO as its centrally supported online course management and delivery tool.

MyLO is used in a variety of contexts within the University.  Units may be:

  • Web supported: MyLO is used to supplement face-to-face or distance education programs.  Lecturers post to the Web material such as unit outlines, lecture notes/summaries and other support material and information and/or utilise MyLO's communications tools to facilitate interaction between staff and students.  However, access on the part of students is not a requirement for successful completion of the unit.

  • Web dependent: MyLO is used to complement the teaching of a unit.  It is required for access to content and/or communications between staff and students.  It thus integrates with the face-to-face or distance education components of study.

  • Web based/fully online: MyLO is required for access to, and interaction with, content, communication between staff and students, and for aspects of assessment.  There is no face-to-face component of study.

Online delivery is thus being used to support on-campus students at the site of course/unit delivery, on-campus students at campuses remote from the base where teaching staff largely operate, and off-campus students (in a small suite of distance education offerings).

The Centre for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching provides students with support and training in MyLO.  Such training is usually coordinated through your unit lecturer.
