The Rural Clinical School is part of the University’s Faculty of Health Science and one of a network of 14 Rural Clinical Schools around Australia.

The RCS enables medical students to undertake training in a rural environment and to experience the unique clinical experiences of rural medical practice. The School also supports nursing, pharmacy, psychology and allied health students on clinical placement in North-West Tasmania, and health professionals undertaking research, post-graduate studies and professional development in the region.

The RCS is co-located between the North West Regional Hospital and the North West Private Hospital in Burnie, with additional facilities providing clinical training opportunities throughout the Cradle Coast region.

The main facility is a 15 minute walk from the Cradle Coast Campus, with students accommodated in the adjacent Atrium Apartments.

There are currently twenty-nine medical undergraduates studying at the RCS which is funded through the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Ageing – Regional Health Strategy.
