Vito AcconciVito Acconci is a highly esteemed multi-disciplinary artist and architect best known for his performances exploring voyeurism and physical/psychological boundaries. Acconci studied poetry and writing in the 1960’s, and in the 1970’s pioneered the Body Art movement that broke with traditional media and emphasised the physicality, sexuality, and endurance of the performer. Vito Acconci is internationally recognised for his significance as a leading performance artist.

In the mid 1980s, Acconci worked in experimental architecture design and public sculpture. The Acconci Studio was established in 1988, undertaking international architectural commissions that explore utopian and biomorphic designs, reflecting the complexity of living organisms and ecosystems. Acconci’s artwork and architectural practice are based on the social interactions between people and the blurring of public and private space.

Vito Acconci will be in Hobart in June for Dark Mofo, when Acconci Studio will launch the concept design for the City of Hobart at Future Hobart, a free public event at the Hobart Town Hall on Tuesday 17 June, 1-3pm.

In his special Tasmanian College of the Arts Forum on Friday 20 June, Vito Acconci will offer insights into his influential and internationally significant arts practice that spans over 50 years.
