Marie-Jeanne Hoffner

Paris-based Marie Jeanne Hoffner and Melbourne-based Alex Pittendrigh have made worked independently to create a new installation in response to Le Désert de Retz, an 18th century park on the edge of the forêt de Marly in north-central France, where remnant and exotic architectural follies are found.

Known locally as Le Désert, it is a site built almost entirely around metaphors for different states of mind. A place full of mystery, it harbours surrealist and romantic connotations and echoes a sense of displacement similar to the curious exoticism found in historical and picturesque images of Tasmania.

In her Arts Forum presentation Marie Jeanne will discuss the ideas and methodologies informing the exhibition, and more broadly her Paris-based art practice.

The Arts Forum is a joint presentation by Contemporary Art Tasmania and Tasmanian College of the Arts.

TCotA Forum is a weekly series of free public lectures held at the Tasmanian College of the Arts (Hunter St) during the semester. TCotA Forum welcomes all students and members of the public, providing a unique opportunity to hear local, national and international visiting scholars and presenters from diverse sectors of the arts discuss their area of professional practice.
